Iraqi club Al-Shorta enters the break between the second and third rounds of the group stage in the AFC Champions League 2 sitting atop Group D, after raising its tally to a full six points from two matches, becoming the only team in the group that has not dropped any points so far.

Al-Shorta leads the table by two points over Jordan’s Al-Hussein Irbid in second with four points, while India’s East Bengal is third with one point, and Oman's Al-Sib bottoms the group with no points. The Iraqi side has scored four goals and conceded two, leaving it with a positive goal difference of two.

The latest three points came from an entertaining 3-2 win over East Bengal on Tuesday in Kolkata, a match Al-Shorta finished with ten men, after having won the opening round 1-0 against Al-Sib in Baghdad. In the other match of the same round, Al-Hussein reinforced its position with a 3-0 victory over Al-Sib in Muscat.

Attention now turns to the group summit, as Al-Shorta will host its direct rival Al-Hussein Irbid on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, in Baghdad at 9:15 p.m. Baghdad time, concluding the first-leg phase, before the return fixture in Jordan on Tuesday, 3 November.

A win on 27 October would give Al-Shorta the chance to extend the gap to five points over its nearest pursuers, while Al-Hussein knows that a victory in Baghdad would flip the top of the standings in its favor.
