Apple has released an urgent security update for iPhone and iPad devices to address a vulnerability that could allow attackers to run malicious software via a specially crafted file, and urged users to install it.
The update is numbered iOS 26.7.1 and is available for iPhone 11 and later models running older versions of iOS.
The flaw affects the CoreGraphics component responsible for processing and rendering images and graphics on iPhone and iPad devices.
Apple said the flaw may have been exploited in "a highly sophisticated attack targeting specific individuals," without revealing further details about the nature of the attack — a pattern of targeting that could suggest the possible use of spyware to monitor devices and collect information from them.
The update can be installed by opening Settings, then choosing General and Software Update, and tapping "Download and Install" or "Update Now." Apple advised users to back up their data beforehand, connect the phone to a charger, and connect to a trusted Wi-Fi network.
Apple also released iPadOS 26.7.1 for a number of iPad models, including the 11‑inch and 12.9‑inch iPad Pro, iPad Air (3rd generation and later), iPad (8th generation and later), and iPad mini (5th generation and later).
In a separate update, the company released iOS 27.0.1 for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max to address several software issues that appeared after those devices were released. The update fixes an issue that could cause the phone to restart automatically after Face ID failed to verify the user, a camera bug that could produce unnatural colors when using 2x zoom under certain lighting conditions, and includes a fix for an issue that could cause the touchscreen to stop responding when Notification Center and Control Center are opened at the same time.
