Polish authorities announced the detention of a 66-year-old man in the Lower Silesia region in the southwest of the country on suspicion of plotting an attack targeting Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz.

Security services said the threat was detected through the suspect's online activity, in addition to a tip received by the state protection service responsible for securing senior officials, prompting police to move quickly and arrest the man before any plan was carried out.

The detainee was identified as Krzysztof N. under Polish laws that prohibit publishing suspects' full names. Investigators say the man is the founder of a group that describes itself as the "Polish Radical Resistance Movement" and espouses extremist ideas.

Security forces searched the suspect's home and seized devices and digital data that have been referred to specialist experts for analysis, as part of an investigation aimed at determining the scope of the plot and whether there are accomplices or other involved elements.

The case comes amid a charged political atmosphere marked by repeated warnings about rising hate speech and threats directed at political figures. The government said security agencies will continue to respond firmly to any threat to state security and its officials.
