A correspondent reported on Tuesday that two brothers from Dhi Qar province — one a pharmacist — drowned in Greek waters while attempting to reach Europe. Greek authorities said they recovered 12 bodies and rescued 22 survivors.

A correspondent reported on Tuesday that two brothers from Dhi Qar governorate in southern Iraq, one of whom worked as a pharmacist, drowned in Greek waters while attempting to flee to a European country.
Greek maritime authorities and rescue teams announced on Monday that they had found 12 bodies, including an infant, as a result of two separate disasters involving irregular boats off the coasts of the islands of Lesbos and Samos in the Aegean Sea.
Official reports issued by the coast guard confirmed that 22 people survived the two incidents, noting that the incidents resulted from a collision with a patrol boat in one case and the capsizing of another boat in a separate incident within territorial waters.
The tragedy continues along the maritime routes taken by those fleeing in search of refuge and of reaching European Union territory via passages around the islands and the waters near the island of Crete to the south.
