The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a ministerial order transferring Ambassador Ahmed Naif Rashid al-Dulaimi to serve at the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, to replace Ambassador Safia al-Suhail.

A document issued by the ministry's administrative department shows the decision stipulates it takes effect from the date al-Dulaimi is released from his previous post, and that the ministerial order bore the signature of Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein.

The diplomatic change comes ahead of the expected visit of Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi to Saudi Arabia, scheduled for next Wednesday, which will be part of a Gulf tour that will also include Kuwait.

The Riyadh leg of that tour had been postponed last July due to rapidly unfolding security developments in the region, according to earlier media reporting about the visit.

In preparations for the official visit, Minister of Oil Bassem Muhammad Khudair and Minister of Electricity Ali Saadi Wahib arrived in Riyadh on Sunday evening to prepare the forthcoming files and to participate in the 25th World Energy Conference at the invitation of the Saudi Minister of Energy.
