Google launches Googlebook laptops powered by Gemini, prices from $900

Google officially launched its new Googlebook laptop category, which combines Android and ChromeOS technologies with Gemini AI capabilities, with prices starting at $900 and reaching $1,300, and opened preorders for five models from Acer, ASUS, HP, Dell and Lenovo.

With this new category, Google is targeting the premium laptop market, a move that puts it in direct competition with high-end Windows PCs and Apple's MacBook.

Five premium laptops

The five companies unveiled the first Googlebook models, which rely on Intel Core Ultra Series 3 or Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processors, with dedicated neural processing units (NPUs) providing at least 45 trillion operations per second for AI tasks.

The lineup includes the following devices:

  • Acer Googlebook 14 priced at $900, featuring a Core Ultra 5 processor, a 14-inch OLED display with 2.8K resolution, and a battery lasting up to 16 hours.
  • ASUS Googlebook 14 priced at $1,300, featuring a Core Ultra 7 processor, a 14-inch OLED display with 2.8K resolution, and a battery lasting up to 16 hours.
  • XPS Googlebook priced at $1,200, featuring a Snapdragon X Elite processor, a 13.4-inch LCD display with 2.5K resolution, and a battery lasting up to 18 hours.
  • HP Googlebook 14 priced at $1,300, featuring a Snapdragon X Elite processor, a 14-inch OLED display with 2.8K resolution, and a battery lasting up to 19 hours.
  • Lenovo Googlebook 15 priced at $1,100, featuring a Core Ultra 5 processor, a 15.3-inch OLED display with 2.8K resolution, and a battery lasting up to 13 hours.

All five laptops come with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, with chassis made of aluminum, magnesium alloy, or carbon fiber.

Shared specifications include touchscreens, backlit keyboards, haptic touchpads, and Google's new Glowbar light strip, which shows charging status and reacts to the user when interacting with Gemini.

Gemini at the heart of the user experience

Google integrates Gemini directly into the operating system, with a set of features aimed at making everyday tasks easier.

The Magic Pointer feature lets users invoke Gemini by moving the mouse pointer; it analyzes on-screen content and helps the user interact with it.

The company also offers Rambler, which allows users to speak naturally, even with hesitations or speech errors, and Gemini converts the speech into formatted notes, task lists, or organized text.

Google also offers Create My Widget, which enables creating desktop widgets by describing them in natural language; the system generates the requested widget according to the user's instructions.

Integration with Android phones

Google bets on integration with Android as a key Googlebook advantage; users can transfer their compatible phone's settings, saved passwords, Wi‑Fi networks, and messages during the computer setup.

The Continue On feature allows supported tasks to move between phone and PC, while Cast My Apps lets users run Android apps in windows on the desktop.

Users can also browse photos and files stored on their phone directly through the Files app on Googlebook.

Tools for developers and updates up to 10 years

Google is also targeting developers; Googlebook laptops come preinstalled with the Antigravity development platform and a full Linux terminal that lets users run tools like Claude Code and the Antigravity CLI.

These capabilities provide an integrated development environment allowing programmers to access their tools directly from the laptop.

The new laptops rely on Google's built-in Titan security technologies, with on-device malware protection.

The company also provides an isolated Linux environment based on the pKVM virtual machine supervisor, which has security certification, to enhance isolation of applications and development environments.

Google pledges to provide feature updates and security patches for up to 10 years.

Free subscriptions with purchase

The companies are offering limited-time promotions with each laptop, including a 12-month subscription to the Google AI Pro advanced AI plan, with 5TB of cloud storage.

The offers include limited-time subscriptions to services such as YouTube Premium, Adobe Photoshop, CapCut, Luminar and GeForce NOW.

Googlebook release date

Google opened preorders for the new laptops via its online store, Best Buy stores, and a number of selected retailers.

The devices are scheduled to go on sale in the United States on October 4, 2026, with availability in Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia on October 5; there is no information yet on availability in other markets.

The move comes as Microsoft pushes Copilot+ PCs, which combine specific hardware requirements with AI features integrated into Windows.

With Googlebook, Google aims to expand its presence in the premium laptop market, after Chromebooks have historically been associated with the education sector and low-cost machines.
