Iraq's Interior Ministry said it detained 74 infiltrators during September, and confirmed continued fortification and construction of a concrete wall from Rabia toward Fishkhabur at the border triangle.

Iraq's Interior Ministry announced on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, that it detained 74 infiltrators of different nationalities at the international border during last September, confirming in an official statement the continuation of fortification work and the construction of a concrete wall from the Rabia area toward Fishkhabur at the Iraqi–Syrian–Turkish border triangle.
Major General Miqdad Miri, head of the ministry's Department of Relations and Media, said in the statement that security forces continue their efforts to tighten control over the borders and prevent illegal infiltration, noting that monitoring continues around the clock alongside technical fortification work.
The statement added that work is being carried out according to the drawn security plans by combining field and intelligence efforts with engineering fortifications, which strengthens border security and preserves Iraq's sovereignty and the safety of its territory, as part of a policy aimed at closing infiltration and smuggling routes.
The announcement comes as part of strengthening the security presence along the northern and western border strip, with the concrete wall at the border triangle forming part of a multi-layered surveillance system that includes patrols, electronic monitoring and coordination among the relevant agencies.
The statement did not detail the nationalities of the infiltrators or the geographic distribution of the detentions across the border provinces, nor did it specify a timetable for the full completion of the Rabia–Fishkhabur section, while confirming that work continues according to the planned schedules along the northern border strip.
