Kurdistan Region says it will send payroll lists to federal finance and convert saved salaries into official debt

The Ministry of Finance and Economy in the Kurdistan Region announced on Tuesday its full commitment to sending employee payroll lists and the trial balance to the Federal Ministry of Finance for the purpose of financing salaries, noting a government decision to convert accumulated salaries into official debts owed by the regional government.

The ministry's spokesman, Huner Jamal, said at a press conference held in Erbil that the ministry is committed to carrying out its duties, which include sending the monthly employee lists and the trial balance as has been the practice in recent months.

Jamal explained that the procedures for financing salaries and setting the dates for sending them are linked to the Federal Ministry of Finance, stressing that there are no problems on the regional ministry's part that would prevent the distribution of salaries.

Regarding the file of salaries that have been accumulated for years, the spokesman said the Ministry of Finance took the initiative to present the option to the Kurdistan Region Council of Ministers, which decided to convert these accumulated salaries into debts on the government's account, with the aim of preserving employees' rights and committing to repay them in the future.
