Nechirvan Barzani to Swiss Ambassador: We Are Keen to Develop Relations

Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, on Monday told Switzerland’s new ambassador to Iraq, Peter Nelson, of his keenness to develop bilateral relations and joint cooperation.

In a statement from Barzani’s office, received by the Al-Wasat Iraqi newspaper, Barzani offered congratulations to Nelson on assuming his duties and wished him success, stressing the Kurdistan Region’s keenness to strengthen bilateral relations and expressing his thanks for Switzerland’s support to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. 

For his part, the new Swiss ambassador said he was pleased to begin his duties in Iraq, affirming his country’s desire to develop its relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and to expand the horizons of joint cooperation between the two sides, according to the statement. 

The statement indicated that the meeting discussed the situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, alongside reviewing the latest updates and developments in the region.
