The Karkh Criminal Court, on Tuesday, issued judicial sentences of life imprisonment against six convicted French nationals, and a 15-year prison sentence against a seventh convicted person, on charges of belonging to ISIS, in the presence of their legal representatives and representatives of the French embassy in Iraq.
A statement issued by the Supreme Judicial Council said these convicts were described as "elements of extreme danger"; according to the statement, they were attributed a role in threatening Iraq's national security and undermining stability inside Iraq and Syria, and the statement also indicated their involvement in inciting the carrying out of terrorist operations in other countries.
The statement added that the seven convicted were part of a group of 47 defendants holding French nationality, handed over by Iraqi authorities last year from areas in northeastern Syria, and that the First Karkh Investigative Court conducted investigations with them and then referred them to the competent court in accordance with the adopted legal procedures.
