President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are considering relieving Kimberly Guilfoyle of her post as U.S. ambassador to Greece, following news reports alleging her involvement in improper and possibly illegal conduct before and during her assignment in Athens.

According to The Associated Press, it said a senior U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Trump and Rubio are "very angry" about what they've been told regarding Guilfoyle's behavior, and they are expected to decide this week on the action they will take after the Columbus Day holiday ends on Monday.

The official added that Rubio felt particular displeasure because he visited Athens last week, and Guilfoyle attended most, if not all, of the events during his visit and greeted him on arrival with an embrace, amid the mounting allegations against her.

The news coverage that raised the issue included several allegations, among them an alleged threat directed at an official in the host country, acceptance of gifts and perks deemed inappropriate, and reports that she offered to use her position in the administration to settle a large credit card bill.

Guilfoyle declined to comment directly on those reports, while her lawyer denied that she committed any wrongdoing. The U.S. embassy in Athens has shown implicit support for its ambassador through statements and signals that were not a direct response to the accusations.
