Ahmed Jasim, Director General of the Public Company for Maritime Transport at the Ministry of Transport, announced on Sunday the arrival of the container ship "Basra" at Umm Qasr port, loaded with containers and coming from Jebel Ali port in the UAE.

The arrival was promoted as a resumption of the Iraqi maritime line's activity and the return of its commercial voyages after a halt that lasted decades, according to a company statement.

According to the statement, resuming the line allows for strengthening the movement of goods and containers between Iraqi and Emirati ports and provides additional shipping options for traders and importers, which will help facilitate imports and exports and stimulate commercial activity through Umm Qasr port.

The statement added that the line's return is part of the company's efforts to activate the national carrier's operations and expand its maritime transport services, and to bolster its presence in regional and international trade to support the smooth flow of cargo and serve the national economy.
