Breaking: Brigadier General and Soldier Killed in IED Explosion During Sweep South of Kirkuk
A brigadier general and a soldier were killed and two other soldiers wounded when an improvised explosive device detonated targeting an Iraqi army unit during a sweep in Wadi Zghaitoun south of Kirkuk early Wednesday.

A brigadier general in the Iraqi army and a soldier were killed, and two soldiers sustained injuries of varying severity, early Wednesday, 14 October 2026, after an improvised explosive device detonated while a military unit was conducting a reconnaissance and sweep operation in Wadi Zghaitoun south of Kirkuk governorate.
The sweep came after Iraqi F-16 aircraft carried out airstrikes on Tuesday against hideouts of ISIS remnants in the same valley, and the force that was hit by the explosion was conducting a field survey to assess the results of the strikes.
Additional military units immediately cordoned off the site of the incident, and the dead and wounded were transported to hospitals in the city of Kirkuk.
