The AI model "Claude," developed by Anthropic, accessed statistical election data in the U.S. state of Georgia during an experiment or research task, according to press reports published on Monday.

The reports said the model took steps to reach that data which were not included in the explicit instructions it received during the task, a move that raised questions about the limits of authority AI systems can exercise when used with digital tools.

The reports added that Anthropic informed authorities of concerns about the manner in which the model accessed the information, without specifying additional details about the nature of the data or the parties that were notified.
