Explosions Heard in Baghdad; Security Media Cell Confirms Drone Handled Near Green Zone
Sounds of explosions were heard in Baghdad after 2 p.m., prompting security units to mobilize and sirens to be heard inside the U.S. embassy. Later the Security Media Cell said the sound resulted from handling an unidentified drone near the Green Zone.
A security source reported hearing explosions in several areas of the capital, Baghdad, today, Tuesday, extending from the city center to its southern districts.
The source added that the sounds were recorded after 2 p.m. in various neighborhoods, prompting security units to mobilize on both sides of the Tigris River in Karkh and Rusafa to search for the source of the noises.
The source also said that alarm sirens were heard inside the U.S. embassy located in the Green Zone during the same period.
Later, the head of the Security Media Cell, Saad Ma'an, explained that the sound heard in Baghdad resulted from handling a drone in the vicinity of the Green Zone, adding that the drone was of unknown identity and was dealt with.
