On Tuesday, the French embassy in Saudi Arabia urged its citizens to avoid being present at major airports in the kingdom and not to travel to three cities unless the visit was necessary.

The embassy said in a statement that the recommendation came "in light of the security situation," stressing that French citizens are strongly advised not to travel to or transit through King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah, or King Fahd Airport in Dammam.

The statement also said that travel to the cities of Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam "is not recommended except when necessary," calling on nationals to exercise caution and follow guidance issued by local authorities and the embassy.
