North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called on officials of the ruling Workers' Party to renew and develop the party's propaganda and ideological work, the 'propaganda,' to align with what he described as 'the expectations of the era, the revolution and the people,' state media reported on Tuesday, 22 September.
In his closing speech at the third workshop for the party's media and propaganda staff, Kim emphasized the need to modernize the content, forms, methods and means of ideological work, stressing the importance of developing tools for intellectual influence and mass mobilization.
The Korean Central News Agency said the leader identified what he called 'principled issues' and the necessary tasks to modernize the party's ideological work system.
Innovations in media and mobilization
Kim called for introducing innovations in the fields of media, mass mobilization and cultural activities, demanding that these steps align with the requirements of the current stage and the party's political objectives.
He also stressed the need to develop methods of communication with the public and to strengthen the impact of media and propaganda messages directed at different segments of society.
The four-day workshop concluded on Monday after focusing its work on ideological education related to what Pyongyang calls Kim Jong Un's 'revolutionary ideas,' alongside highlighting the party's history and its leadership achievements.
The workshop urged participants to intensify media and propaganda campaigns to mobilize the public in support of implementing the decisions of the Workers' Party's ninth congress, adapting the ideological discourse to the nature of each sector and institution.
Participants discussed ways to develop new forms and methods for ideological work, as well as mechanisms to present media messages in a more realistic and attractive manner, and to use visual means to achieve the greatest effectiveness in conveying the party's policies.
The current workshop is the third of its kind since its launch in 2022. Kim Jong Un participated in the opening and closing ceremonies and delivered a speech at each, indicating the importance the North Korean leadership attaches to propaganda and ideological guidance.
