Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed on Saturday that his country is ready to contribute to stabilizing the Strait of Hormuz.
Lavrov said in remarks to the press, followed by Al-Wasat Iraqi newspaper: "The waves of confrontation in the Gulf and the issue of the Strait of Hormuz must be resolved."
He added, "We launched an initiative to establish peace in the Gulf region and resolve the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz," pointing out that "the targeting of Iranian nuclear facilities dealt an irreparable blow to the authority of the International Atomic Energy Agency."
He continued that "the repeated armed confrontations in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz continue in a way that harms global navigation and trade," noting that "resolving the crisis requires building trust between the Gulf states, the Arab countries, and Iran."
Lavrov pointed out that "Russia, together with other countries, is ready to contribute constructively to the stability of the strategically important Middle East region."
