Anti‑Corruption Court Sets Oct. 19 for Trial of MP Muthanna al‑Samarrai with Adnan al‑Jumaili as Witness

The Central Anti‑Corruption Criminal Court set Monday, October 19, for the trial of detained MP Muthanna al‑Samarrai, and summoned former Oil Ministry official Adnan al‑Jumaili to appear as a witness, according to a judicial document addressed to the Federal Integrity Commission/Investigations Department/Baghdad Investigations Directorate.

The document stated that the trial will be held against al‑Samarrai, who is detained in connection with the case under the provisions of Article 319 of Penal Code No. 111 of 1969, as amended, and by reference to participation Articles 47, 48 and 49 of the same law.

The court asked that the persons listed in the document’s schedule be notified to appear before it: the legal representative of the Ministry of Oil, Adnan al‑Jumaili, Mustafa Adnan al‑Nuaimi, Safaa Adnan al‑Nuaimi, Ghassan al‑Jumaili, and Alaa al‑Jumaili — all listed as witnesses — while al‑Samarrai appears as a detained defendant.

The document included a request directed to the Military Intelligence Directorate to secure the transfer of al‑Samarrai and the individuals listed as witnesses, noting that they are held at the directorate.

Authorities arrested al‑Samarrai on June 28, 2026 as part of a series of arrests targeting MPs and officials in connection with corruption files, based on information and confessions linked to the case of Adnan al‑Jumaili.

According to previous statements by an investigating judge at the Central Anti‑Corruption Criminal Court, investigations in al‑Jumaili’s case date back to October 2025 after reports were received alleging that candidates spent large sums on their election campaigns using state resources, and that there were suspicions of benefiting from government contracts directly or through intermediaries in return for commissions and personal gains.

On previous occasions the Supreme Judicial Council announced the seizure of funds and assets it said were linked to proceeds of crimes under investigation, including the case of detainee Adnan al‑Jumaili, and said investigations would continue and other parties would be pursued.
