On Tuesday morning in Nineveh province, an official funeral ceremony began for the remains of 47 residents of the province who were killed by members of ISIS during its control of the city of Mosul from mid-2014 until late 2017.

The ceremony was overseen by Nineveh Governor Abdul-Qadir al-Dakhil and the head of the Nineveh Court of Appeal, Judge Raed Hamid al-Maslih, and was attended by the head and members of the provincial council, a number of government and security officials, and the victims' families.

A local source said on Monday that the province would hold a central memorial ceremony on Tuesday morning to hand over the remains of 47 bodies belonging to people from areas south of Mosul who were executed by ISIS during its control of the city.

The source added that the remains had been previously found inside a mass grave in areas south of Mosul by teams from the Martyrs Foundation, and that the handover comes after receipt and matching of DNA test results recently that confirmed their identities, noting that the victims include both military personnel and civilians executed by the terrorist organization.
