The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) accused North Korea of stealing more than $6 billion in cryptocurrencies in a cyberattack targeting the Binance digital asset exchange.
An official bureau statement said members of the TraderTraitor group participated in transferring the stolen assets, and that those transfers were carried out mainly into ether.
Binance announced on Friday that a security breach caused losses of about $6.3 billion, describing the incident as possibly the largest cryptocurrency theft ever.
Binance also said the incident could prompt investors to reconsider the risks of holding digital assets, without providing additional details about affected parties or compensation measures.
