Reports: About 3,000 US troops deployed to Israel ahead of possible escalation

Hebrew reports said Sunday evening that US military reinforcements were sent to Israel in preparation for a possible escalation in the region.

Reports citing security sources said the US military has currently deployed about 3,000 soldiers in Israel, with movements expected to reinforce US forces and aircraft in the country over the coming weeks.

The reports said the duties of the US troops in Israel include air-defense systems, pilots, and support and logistics teams.

A senior security official said coordination between the Israeli and US militaries will gradually increase as more US forces arrive in the Middle East, with the aim of "reducing the time required to move from a routine state to a state of emergency."

On 28 September, it was revealed that two additional squadrons of US warplanes had landed at Ovda Airbase inside Israel.

Reports also said the US administration is preparing to finalize an arms and munitions deal worth $2.8 billion for Israel, including tens of thousands of bombs and warheads.

Earlier in the day, the Israeli military said it is building a strategy based on preparing for a surprise war, affirming that it is in a constant state of alert to prevent and be prepared for surprises.

US President Donald Trump last Thursday hinted at the possibility of returning to intensive strikes on Iran after the US midterm elections scheduled for the upcoming November.

The United States and Israel had carried out an attack on Iran on 28 February 2026, and Iran responded with strikes on Israel and Gulf states hosting US bases.
