Thousands of demonstrators from different areas of al-Hasakah governorate converged today, Friday, on the public square in the city center to take part in a popular demonstration under the slogan "No flag but the flag of the Syrian Arab Republic", demanding the extension of Syrian state sovereignty over the entire territory of the governorate.

A number of residents from other neighborhoods of the city went to the mosques in the Ghuwayran neighborhood to gather and perform prayers before moving toward the demonstration site.

In the city of Raqqa and its countryside, several popular demonstrations were held in solidarity with the people of al-Hasakah, coinciding with calls demanding an increased presence of the state and its institutions in the governorate.

Today's demonstrations come for the second week in a row, amid demands to restore state control and strengthen security and stability in the governorate.

The city of al-Hasakah had witnessed security tensions yesterday, Thursday, coinciding with the ceremony of raising the Syrian flag in al-Salam Square, which were punctuated by scuffles and gunfire.
