Tom Barrack: Iraqi‑US partnership shifts from security to economic cooperation
The U.S. president's envoy visited Chargé d'Affaires Steve Fagin and said relations with Iraq are at a pivotal moment, with the partnership moving from a narrow security focus to economic cooperation and shared interests.

Baghdad — Tom Barrack, the U.S. president's envoy to Iraq, said on Monday that relations between Baghdad and Washington are at a pivotal moment, and that the partnership between the two countries is currently shifting from a narrow security focus to a broader framework centered on economic cooperation and shared interests.
Barrack wrote on the X platform that he visited Chargé d'Affaires Steve Fagin in Iraq, and praised Fagin's extensive experience in Iraqi and regional affairs, saying it qualifies him to help achieve the U.S. president's priorities.
He added that having the right leadership at this pivotal time is important to reinforce the transformation in the nature of the relationship between the two countries — from security dimensions to a wider partnership based on economic interests and mutual cooperation.
