U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that the war with Iran will end "very soon, one way or another, and we have the ability to end it either way."

Trump added in remarks to the press that "Iran no longer has an army or naval or air forces or anti-aircraft defense systems," noting that "we have prevented Iran from possessing a nuclear weapon, and fuel prices will drop sharply soon."

Trump said the United States "has imposed a naval blockade on the Strait of Hormuz and we do not allow anyone to pass to or from Iran," and he also added that "yesterday we removed the largest amount of oil from the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the war," and that "we have important news regarding the diesel crisis and we will work to address it forcefully."

Earlier in the day, Trump renewed his pledge to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, saying: "Our naval forces are leading efforts to ensure that Iran does not possess a nuclear weapon, and that will never happen," and also pointing out that Iran is "practically abandoning" any plans to acquire a nuclear weapon.

He added that the United States will not attack Iran before the midterm congressional elections scheduled for "November 3," and that there are "productive talks" underway between the two sides, following reports of U.S. preparations to carry out potential large-scale strikes.
