The death toll from a mine collapse in the Soma area of Manisa province, Turkey, rose to five, and search-and-rescue operations ended after the recovery of the bodies of all the workers who died in the incident.
The Manisa provincial administration said search-and-rescue teams found the bodies of three more workers who had been under the rubble, after two workers' bodies had been found earlier.
The collapse occurred inside a mine in the Soma area; seven workers were present at the time of the incident, and rescue teams managed to extract two workers from under the rubble shortly after the collapse.
Turkish Justice Minister Akin Gurluk announced the opening of an investigation into the causes of the incident and assigned three public prosecutors to follow up the investigation.
The Turkish Ministry of Labor and Social Security is also conducting a separate investigation to determine the circumstances of the collapse.
