Baghdad Prepares to Operate Iraq's First Satellite Ground Station Next Sunday
Communications Minister Mustafa Sand announced the launch of an Iraqi ground teleport in Baghdad dedicated to handling geostationary satellites, urging institutions to adopt it as their main gateway.

Communications Minister Mustafa Sand announced today, Thursday, that he will inaugurate Iraq's first satellite ground station (Teleport) in the capital Baghdad next Sunday.
He said the station is configured to handle satellites operating in geostationary orbit (GEO), and described the project as a step toward cementing the ministry's vision of achieving digital sovereignty for Iraq.
He added in a statement that the gateway represented by the station should be adopted by security and service institutions, government ministries, and private-sector companies as the main hub for reception and transmission traffic.
He explained that the aim of locally adopting the gateway is to reduce reliance on international infrastructure outside the scope of national sovereignty, paving the way to the next phase of the national space sovereignty project.
The statement concluded by noting that details of the next phase of the national space sovereignty project will be announced at a later time.
