New Baghdad Judiciary summons Mohammed Jaafar Nasif on false reporting and evidence-fabrication charges
The New Baghdad Judiciary issued a summons for Mohammed Jaafar Nasif on charges of false reporting of crimes, misleading investigative and judicial authorities, and fabricating material evidence; he was previously caught in a 2019 bribery case, and MP Alia Nasif Jassim has faced earlier legal and financial measures.

The New Baghdad Judiciary on Tuesday issued a summons for the accused "Mohammed Jaafar Nasif," the nephew of the convicted MP in corruption cases, Alia Nasif Jassim, on the basis of "false reporting of crimes that did not occur, deliberately misleading investigative and judicial authorities in bad faith, as well as fabricating and falsifying material evidence contrary to reality."
The accused Mohammed Jaafar Nasif was caught in flagrante delicto in a bribery case in 2019, and a criminal record was registered against him, according to the competent authorities at the time.
The Federal Integrity Commission announced last September the issuance of a verdict sentencing Alia Nasif Jassim to seven years in prison for the crime of illicit enrichment, and obliging her to return more than 61 billion dinars—the value of the illicit gains—and to pay a financial penalty equal to that amount.
In August, the Central Bank of Iraq also issued orders to freeze the funds of 12 prominent political figures, including current and former MPs and a former adviser to the prime minister, among them MP Alia Nasif.
