Baghdad set to suspend operations of U.S.-sanctioned Iranian airlines
AFP reported on Monday that Iraqi authorities are moving to suspend the operations in Iraq of Iranian airlines subject to U.S. sanctions, effective Tuesday, in a move that comes as U.S. economic pressure on Tehran intensifies.
The agency quoted Iraqi sources saying Baghdad will suspend the operations of Iranian airlines covered by U.S. sanctions, while Iraqi reports said the decision will include flights at Iraqi airports.
According to reports, travel between Iraq and Iran will remain available via land crossings, while not all details of the decision or the names of the airlines to be affected are yet clear.
The step comes amid U.S. warnings of secondary sanctions on entities that provide services to Iranian companies listed on sanctions lists.
