Houthis call for immediate evacuation of Aden airport as rocket falls within its vicinity

The Ansar Allah group (the Houthis) on Wednesday called on those at Aden International Airport in southern Yemen to evacuate it immediately. The group's military spokesman, Yahya Sarea, said in a post on the X platform that the call was due to what he said was a Saudi military cargo plane carrying weapons, while residents in the city reported hearing explosions before the warning was issued. There was no immediate comment from Saudi authorities.

A source in Aden police said a rocket fired by the Houthis fell within the airport's vicinity shortly before the evacuation call, while airport authorities began evacuating staff and workers to protect their safety, at a time when the city that serves as the seat of the internationally recognized government has been subjected to repeated attacks over recent weeks. In a related development, Houthi-affiliated media said raids they attributed to Saudi Arabia targeted a market in al-Hazm, the capital of al-Jawf governorate in northern Yemen, killing at least 14 people and injuring 10 others, including women and children, in preliminary tolls, amid escalating confrontations between the group and the coalition supporting the Yemeni government.
