Washington imposes new sanctions on 10 people and an entity linked to North Korea

The United States on Wednesday announced a new package of sanctions related to North Korea targeting ten individuals and one entity, Reuters reported citing a U.S. Treasury notice.

The Treasury said the sanctioned entity is "First Center for Financial and Technological Development," and that six of the individuals targeted are affiliated with it.

The department added that two of those targeted are Russian citizens, while the remainder appear to be from North Korea, without providing further details on their identities or locations.

These measures come as the U.S. administration, led by President Donald Trump, seeks to resume talks with Pyongyang, although North Korea has shown little interest in diplomacy aimed at containing its nuclear program.

Recently, Trump downplayed the likelihood of holding a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in China next month, while the U.S. president continues to describe North Korea as a nuclear power even as Washington's policy remains focused on calling for its denuclearization.

Trump became the only U.S. president to meet a North Korean leader after holding an unprecedented series of summits with Kim between 2018 and 2019, but the diplomatic efforts later collapsed over U.S. demands that North Korea give up its nuclear weapons.
