The coalition intercepts a ballistic missile toward southern Saudi Arabia and a drone in Riyadh
The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis toward the southern region and shot down a drone over Riyadh on Friday evening, after earlier interceptions of a drone over Makkah and a cruise missile toward the western region.
The Saudi-led coalition’s forces announced on the evening of Friday, Oct. 30, 2026, that air defenses intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Houthi group toward the southern region of the kingdom, and also intercepted and destroyed an unmanned aerial vehicle over the Riyadh area.
Missile toward the south and drone over Riyadh
The two announcements were issued by the coalition’s official spokesperson at about 6:55 p.m. Baghdad time, one minute apart, without disclosing the location of any debris or reporting injuries or damage as of the time of this report.
A series of interceptions since early Friday
This came hours after the coalition said, on Friday morning, that it had intercepted a drone in the Makkah region — a strike the Houthi group denied responsibility for — and after it announced in the early hours of Friday the interception of a cruise-type missile launched toward the western region. On Thursday evening the coalition intercepted two ballistic missiles toward Riyadh, whose fragments caused minor injuries to a citizen and damage to a home and a vehicle.
Warning against photographing impact sites
At the same time, the Saudi Interior Ministry, via the General Directorate of Civil Defense, reiterated its warning that photographing, publishing, or sharing any information related to the interception of missiles and drones or the locations of their impacts exposes the person to legal accountability. The warning was published in several languages, including English, Urdu, Hindi and Bengali.
The Houthi group had not officially claimed responsibility for launching the missile and the drone on Friday evening as of the time this report was prepared.
