Jordanian Armed Forces Say They Foiled Infiltration Attempt from Syria After Clash in North

The Jordanian Armed Forces announced on Saturday that they foiled an infiltration attempt carried out by a group coming from Syrian territory that included about 14 people, following a clash that took place Friday evening in the Northern Military Region.

In a statement, the forces said members of the group tried to infiltrate "under heavy covering fire" and engaged directly with Border Guard forces. It added that the forces confronted them immediately and firmly, in accordance with the established rules of engagement.

The statement said the clash inflicted "numerous human losses" among the armed group, and that the remaining members fled toward the Syrian interior. The statement did not provide a specific tally of the losses or further details about the incident.

In a related development, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates announced on Tuesday that it is coordinating with Jordan to form an urgent joint field and security committee to prevent repeated breaches on the border, following Jordanian strikes that targeted several sites in Daraa governorate and resulted in casualties.
