Lula wins presidential runoff in Brazil with 51%
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won the presidential runoff with 51% versus 49% for Flávio Bolsonaro, the electoral court said after about 73% of votes were counted on a chaotic election day.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva secured a victory in the presidential runoff, the Brazilian electoral court said.
Court data showed Lula had 51% of the vote versus 49% for his opponent Flávio Bolsonaro, after about 73% of ballots had been counted by Sunday evening.
The result came after an election day that, according to media reports, saw chaos including accusations of obstructing voting and last-minute measures to extend polling hours.
The race was decided late after voters mobilized in large numbers in Lula’s strongholds in northeastern Brazil, where they gathered in support of one of the most prominent opponents of the Trumpist current in Latin America.
The runoff win gives Lula a fourth term, which some have described as a continuation of a political career spanning more than four decades.
