Parliament Refers MP Yusuf al-Kalabi to Parliamentary Conduct Committee
The Speaker of the House referred MP Yusuf al-Kalabi to the Parliamentary Conduct Committee following a request submitted by Baha' al-Araji accompanied by a recording of statements made inside the chamber, while the Reconstruction and Development bloc suspended its attendance until action is taken.

On Tuesday, the Speaker of the House of Representatives referred MP Yusuf al-Kalabi to the Parliamentary Conduct Committee after an official request submitted by the head of the Reconstruction and Development bloc, Baha' al-Araji.
According to a document seen by [the outlet], Al-Araji attached to his request a compact disc containing the statements al-Kalabi made inside the parliamentary chamber, considering that those statements constitute "a clear offense, an overstep, and false accusations" against the head of the Reconstruction and Development Alliance and former Prime Minister Mohammad Shia' al-Sudani.
The request added that the statements aim to achieve personal media gains and harm the state and its institutions, and it called for taking the necessary legal measures against the MP. The document showed the Speaker's approval to refer al-Kalabi to the Parliamentary Conduct Committee.
The Reconstruction and Development bloc had announced on Monday that it was suspending its attendance at parliamentary sessions, stressing that it conditions resuming participation in parliamentary meetings on the taking of legal action against the MP in question.
The bloc said in its statement that it had submitted an official memorandum demanding the referral of the MP to the Parliamentary Conduct Committee, and that its failure to obtain concrete steps led it to suspend attendance at the sessions.
