Turkey's Defence Ministry welcomes Baghdad's efforts to restore order in Sinjar

Turkey's Ministry of Defense on Wednesday welcomed the Iraqi government's efforts to strengthen state authority and restore normalcy in the city of Sinjar.

In a statement, the ministry said that strengthening the state's presence in Sinjar and restoring its institutions is a positive development, and that handing responsibility for security to Iraqi security forces constitutes an important step toward achieving lasting stability in the area.

The ministry said it supports any measures aimed at stabilizing the situation and protecting civilians, while respecting Iraq's sovereignty and its institutions.
