Iranian Embassy in Baghdad calls on Iraqi government to take an "immediate decision" on flight restrictions
The Iranian embassy said the recent restrictions on air traffic hinder the movement of visitors, students and patients, and urged the government to protect the historical ties between the two countries.

The Iranian embassy in Baghdad on Thursday called on the Iraqi government to take an "immediate decision" regarding recent restrictions on air traffic, saying they hinder the movement of visitors, students and patients.
The embassy said in a post on its official account on X that Iranian-Iraqi relations are based on "deep ties and shared interests," noting that the recent flight restrictions impede the movement of visitors, students and patients.
It added that "it is expected of the independent Iraqi government, on Sovereignty Day, to take an immediate decision to protect these historical relations from provocations and the repercussions of U.S. sanctions."
On 29 September, the U.S. Treasury Department, through the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), issued a special license to Iraqi Airways allowing it to conduct the usual and necessary transactions to operate passenger transport services between Iraq and Iran via Najaf Airport under specific terms and restrictions.
The U.S. Treasury informed foreign companies responsible for airport logistics worldwide not to deal in dollars with Iranians because of the embargo and economic sanctions.
