Kirkuk Airport: No Flights to Iranian Airports, Adhering to Civil Aviation Authority Decisions

Kirkuk International Airport spokesman Hirdi al-Salihi announced on Friday that the airport does not operate any flights to Iranian airports.

Al-Salihi said, "Kirkuk International Airport has no flights to Iranian airports, and no aircraft has departed from the airport heading to Iran."

He added that the airport fully complies with the instructions and regulations issued by the Civil Aviation Authority and the relevant government bodies, and that flight movements take place according to officially approved schedules and routes.

He explained that airport management continually monitors decisions and instructions related to air navigation and works to implement them according to official procedures, noting that international flights operated from the airport are subject to procedures and controls approved by the competent authorities.

Al-Salihi noted that the airport continues to organize flight movements according to official instructions, affirming that there is currently no scheduled or existing flight between Kirkuk International Airport and Iranian airports.

Late on Thursday evening, the management of Najaf International Airport decided to suspend all flights arriving from and departing to Iran, effective from 2:00 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, until further notice, based on official directives from the competent authorities.

In a circular seen by Al-Wasat Iraqi newspaper, the administration asked airlines and concerned operating entities not to take any actions regarding the flights covered by the suspension, noting that it will inform them of any subsequent directives about resuming flights. The circular did not state the reason for the decision or the entity that issued the directives.

The development comes amid sanctions announced by the U.S. Treasury Department on September 8 against 36 entities linked to Iran’s aviation sector, including 27 airlines.
