CNN reported on Monday that U.S. President Donald Trump could order strikes on Iran before the end of the year, quoting U.S. officials who said the new strikes are 'a matter of time'.

Sources said any new military operation against Iran would be wide-ranging, but they indicated it is more likely that the strikes would be carried out after the midterm elections.

CNN added that Trump has not finalized his decision on the steps he will take against Iran after the elections, and that he appears inclined to order a wide-scale operation.

Last Sunday Trump said, 'The United States will not be attacking Iran tonight,' and he asked, 'Do I make a deal with them or do I eliminate them once and for all?' He added that he knows exactly what is going on at 'Mount Dagger'.

According to Reuters, 'Mount Dagger' is located near the Natanz uranium-enrichment facility, and has been described as a heavily fortified site containing two complexes of tunnels buried at great depth, while Iran says there is no nuclear activity at the site.

The U.S. president has repeatedly hinted at the possibility of attacking 'Mount Dagger,' according to reports.
