Trump warns of military option against Iran and delays action on Cuba

U.S. President Donald Trump hinted at the possibility of resorting to a new military action against Iran if no agreement is reached or Washington’s conditions are not accepted, according to a Reuters report.

Trump said the military option is still on the table if Tehran does not abandon practices the United States deems unacceptable or does not accept the terms for negotiations, adding that his country could carry out another operation similar to what he called "Epic Fury," or that Iran could agree to enter negotiations.

The president said the easiest course for Iran is to agree to negotiations, but he expressed doubts that Tehran will actually choose that.

Separately, Trump said his administration will postpone addressing the Cuba issue until after the Iran matter is decided, without specifying what measures Washington intends to take toward Havana.

Coinciding with Trump’s remarks, media reports circulated saying his administration is considering the possibility of directing new strikes at Iran after the midterm elections scheduled for November 3, and that the potential operation could target nuclear facilities, missile and drone storage sites, and energy infrastructure. Those reports did not confirm a final decision to carry out such strikes.

On the Iranian side, the Wall Street Journal revealed that Tehran told intermediaries it might expand the scope of its attacks if it were subjected to new U.S. strikes, and the paper quoted officials saying Iran has resumed producing missiles and drones at underground facilities and still retains stockpiles of these weapons.

These developments raise concerns about the widening scope of any potential military confrontation, while Washington continues to present both military and diplomatic options without announcing a date or final conditions for any new operation.
